The Association of Postcolonial Thought

The Association of Postcolonial Thought recognizes and fosters the continued vitality of postcolonial criticism and theory, and addresses the dearth of institutional structure for this field for North American academics.

POCOTHOUGHT aims to:

  • Provide an intellectual hub where postcolonial critique can flourish

  • Create a new space for ethical dialogue, robust exchange, and mentorship networks that gathers scholars, teachers, and students across universities, disciplines, and generations, on and off the tenure track in North America

  • Promote and develop the field’s institutional presence and professional opportunities

For some forty years, postcolonial studies has not only flourished across the humanities and humanistic social sciences but has also made transformative contributions to the way that multiple fields of study understand their methods, archives, and disciplinary formations. This association has been founded in the conviction that postcolonial studies is both intellectually vibrant and politically necessary today, as it enters its fifth decade in the academy.
